Logan Baltau

 Program Head Coach

This is Logan's fourth year coaching at Thousand Oaks High School. He played basketball at Hillcrest Christian School ('09-'12). He was a team captain for 3 seasons and was an All-League Selection 3 times. As a junior he was named MVP after leading the league in assists and rebounds, and finishing second in the league in scoring. He was unable to play as a senior due to injuries but he stayed involved with the program as a varsity and middle school assistant coach. Logan went on to continue his playing career at multiple junior colleges for 2 years.

Coach Logan Baltau's began his coaching career as the Varsity and Middle school assistant coach at Hillcrest Christian. After one season he transitioned into coaching AAU basketball for Conejo Valley Basketball Club.  Coach Baltau is currently the Program Director and Operations Manager for Conejo Valley Basketball Club, the largest club program in the Ventura County area. The has also served as Don MacLean's lead assistant with CAA NBA Pre-Draft process the past five years, in which he has worked with over twenty active NBA Players.

Steve Ornelaz

Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Ornelaz graduated from TOHS in 1977 and set the bar high in the Lancer program, as he broke 10 individual varsity records his senior year.  His scoring average of 24.7 points per game ranks #2 in TO history & his rebounding records that he set 40 years ago still remain today!  He was the first Lancer to earn Marmonte League Player Of The Year, Ventura County Player Of The Year and All CIF in the same season.  He went on to excel at both Moorpark College and West Texas State University. Upon completing his college career, he competed at the professional level for several years in Mexico.  Coach Ornelaz has also been inducted into 2 Halls Of Fame: in 2006 for his professional playing days in Mexico and in the Ventura County Sports Hall Of Fame, Class Of 2017.

Today, he trains and works with the young and upcoming basketball talent in Ventura County.  Many of them are current and future Lancers!  He assists them in developing their athletic talent, helping them to take their game to a higher level.

Joe Mazzeo

Junior Varsity Head Coach

Coach Mazzeo begins his third year at Thousand Oaks High School. Most recently, he served as the assistant coach for Newbury Park High School.  Prior to Newbury Park, he spent several years coaching Freshman, Frosh-Soph, and assisting with the Varsity teams at Westlake High School his alma mater. Coach Mazzeo also has experience coaching for various travel teams in the area coaching a variety of age levels. On top of coaching, he trains players to help them achieve whatever their specific goals are. Coach Mazzeo truly enjoys teaching the game of basketball and mentoring our youth to be the best version of themselves.

Coach Mazzeo attended California Lutheran University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Education. In his last year at CLU, he was able to take an assistant role on their developmental team and got to experience coaching at the college level. Coach Mazzeo is currently in Cal Lutheran’s Teacher Credential Program with his focus being on Physical Education.

Giovannie Hernandez

Sophomore/Freshman Head Coach

Giovannie Hernandez played at Hillcrest Christian (09'-12'). He served as a Team Captain alongside CVBC's Logan Baltau for 3 seasons and was an All-League Selection 3 times. Giovannie averaged 19 points per game and a league high 4.3 steals per game during his career. In the 2012 season he was named Omega League Player of the Year. Giovannie went on to graduate from Grand Canyon University with a degree in Healthcare Administration. Giovannie is CPR and First Aid Certified.

Chris Cornell

Freshman Head Coach

While in his fourth year as head coach of the Lancer Freshman, Chris brings over 12 years of coaching experience at various levels of competition. Chris has been involved with CYBA as a coach and a board member as well as coaching the Thousand Oaks V-League Club team for 4 years. Chris was also an integral part of establishing the Conejo Youth Basketball Club (CYBC) which is the preeminent club program in the Conejo Valley. Chris is grateful for the opportunity to coach the Freshmen team this year and looks forward to a great season. There is a very strong basketball tradition at Thousand Oaks and he is thrilled to be a part of it.
